River rocks Valley Forge heading into break

RR Softball

PARMA HEIGHTS, Ohio (April 6, 2023) -- The Pirates scored in every inning of a six-frame 19-3 triumph over Valley Forge Thursday.

Rocky River (2-2) got two runs in the first inning, one in the second, two in the third, five in the fourth, one in the fifth, and eight in the sixth en route to piling up its season-high 19 runs. River filled the bases with 12 hits and 16 walks. The Pirates also leveraged five Patriot errors.

Everything the Buccaneers registered after the second would be gravy in a game well-pitched by Colleen Meese (five innings pitched, one earned run, three walks, eight strikeouts) and Ava Mae DeMooy (1-0-0-1). Meese and DeMooy combined to hold Valley Forge to a 3-of-12 mark with runners in scoring position.

At the plate, DeMooy reached base three times (single, 2 BB) and was one of six Pirates to reach base three-or-more times. Zoe Satayathum reached five times, going 2-for-2 with three walks and three runs batted in. Satayatham scored four runs in the Great Lakes Conference crossover affair. She now owns a robust .750 OPS through four games.

Juliana Benjamin (2-for-3, 2 BB, 2 RBI, stolen base), Sienna DeMooy (2-for-6, 3R), and Lillian Sereika (2-for-4, double) also had multiple hits. Eleven of River's 12 hits were singles.

Thursday's victory sends the Pirates into a seven-day layoff. The Double-R is slated to return to action with an April 14 non-conference road game at Cloverleaf.
