Pirates come up short in late rally, fall at Fairview

RR Softball

FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio (April 4, 2023) -- Rocky River nearly rallied to avoid defeat Tuesday, but the Pirates could not overcome seven errors as they lost to the Fairview Warriors 15-14 in a Great Lakes Conference West Division match-up.

The Warriors hoisted crooked numbers in the second, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, and they went into the seventh leading 15-8. Along the way, the home nine tallied five unearned runs in the 15 they scored against three River hurlers.

A pair of two-run hits -- one by Colleen Meese and one by  Zoe Satayathum -- ignited a Pirate seventh that would see 12 batters step to the plate. Six of those batters would cycle all the way around the bags to get the visitors within one. But a pop-up with the bases loaded preserved the one-run win for Fairview.

The Warriors earned a measure of revenge after having lost to the Pirates 18-8 Monday.

Meese (3-for-4, double, four runs batted in), Sienna DeMooy (2-for-4, 2 2B, 2 RBIs), Ava Mae DeMooy (2-for-4), and Satayathum (3-for-4, 5 RBIs) each claimed multiple hits for the Pirates (1-2, 1-1 GLC West).
