Konet paces Pirate effort in Saturday brackets

CUYAHOGA HEIGHTS, Ohio (Dec. 10, 2022) -- Rocky River grapplers competed in the Al Pinter Memorial Tournament at Cuyahoga Heights High School Saturday. Senior Aidan Konet won the bracket at 215 pounds to lead a cadre of four Pirates placing in the 12-team-tournament. Rocky River took 10th place overall.

Konet went 5-0 with three pins and a major decision. His third and final pin came in the title bout at 215, a five-minute-and-23-second affair against Woodridge's Frank Beattie. Through the season's first two weeks, Konet is 8-2 with five pins, a tech fall, and a major. His performance Saturday was the lead edge of a Pirate sword cutting a swath of 65 points.

Rocky River's other placers were senior Nathan Maloney (sixth at 138), junior Ilyas Bouchenafa (sixth at 150), and sophomore Lincoln Krish (fourth at 157).

Barberton tallied 275 points to edge Waynesdale (265) for the tournament title.
