BEACHWOOD, Ohio (Dec. 3, 2022) -- Rocky River returned to the mats Saturday, as the Pirates opeved their 2022-23 season by competing in the Ron Madow Memorial Tournament at Beachwood High School. The Double-R was buoyed by three top-4 finishes and took ninth place in a field of 11 teams. [results]

The Wrestling Raiders scored 74.5 points on the day. Top point earners were senior Nate Maloney (runner-up at 138 pounds), junior Connor Schiefferle (third-place at 157), and senior Aidan Konet (fourth at 215). Maloney went 3-1 with two wins by fall and a major. Schiefferle went 4-1 with two pins. Konet went 3-2 with a pair of pins and a tech fall.

Padua scored 253.5 points to win the event. Berkshire (209) finished second. Great Lakes Conference foe North Olmsted took third with 180.5.

Rocky River is slated to compete in the Al Pinter Memorial Tournament at Cuyahoga Heights High School on Dec. 10.
