River splits in final two games

RR Softball

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (May 13, 2023) -- Rocky River closed out its 2023 season with a pair of post-postseason games Friday and Saturday. The Pirates lost to Lutheran West 14-4 Friday and defeated Parma 14-2 Saturday.

The Longhorns took advantage of seven walks and five Pirate errors, but for the season finale River got things cleaned up. In a six-frame, run-rule Saturday game, the Raiders played errorless defense behind hurler Ava Mae DeMooy. She went the route, allowing two runs on four hits and seven walks. The Pirates had four players (Sienna DeMooy, Maggie Heigle, Colleen Meese, Lillian Sereika) register multiple hits in the game, and Rocky River (9-13) had 15 hits as a team.

Over the two games combined, Sienna DeMooy went 4-for-7 with a double, triple, three runs batted in, and four runs scored. Heigle went 4-for-8 with a double. Meese went 3-for-6 with 3 RBI and two stolen bases. Sereika went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI.

The Double-R finished its season strong, going 3-2 across its last five games.

"This last game was a nice end to the season," said coach Jeff Hammond. "I appreciate all the girls' hard work and dedication. And I thank our senior Colleen Meese for her leadership and passion for this program."
