Buccaneers bash Demons 17-2 as win streak hits 6

RR Girls Lacrosse

WESTLAKE, Ohio (April 25, 2023) -- Rocky River ran its win streak to six and triumphed by a double-digit margin for a sixth time this season, as the Pirates defeated Westlake 17-2 Tuesday.

River broke free from a penalty-ridden 5-2 slog in the first half, scoring four times over the first six minutes after halftime. The Pirates were a man-down -- and sometimes two -- for a near-six-minute stretch late in the first.

The Double-R did not allow a goal after the 9:33-mark of the first, and it got its offense in high gear in a strong second period.

Kaitlyn Byrne and Grace Dewitt each scored four goals in leading a Pirate offense that has now averaged 15.2 goals per games since April 1. Byrne's night also included an assist, five ground balls, three caused turnovers, and seven draw controls. Other key contributors included Reagan Connelly (1G, 1A, 4 GB, 1 CT), Olivia Konopka (2G, 1A), Daisy Thompson (2G, 2 GB, 2 CT), and Alexis Tisler (2G, 3A, 3 GB).

DeWitt, who also filed an assist, three scoops, a spill, and four draw controls Tuesday, has now logged multiple goals in seven straight games. She has scored 13 goals over Rocky River's last four contests.

The Pirates (10-1, 7-1 Northern Ohio Lacrosse League) are scheduled to return to action with a pair of games in Columbus this weekend (Friday at Columbus Academy, Saturday at St. Francis).
