Timely fiver helps Bucs repay Bay

RR Softball

BAY VILLAGE, Ohio (April 27, 2023) -- A bat-around five-run frame in the sixth vaulted the Rocky River Pirates past the host Bay Rockets 10-5, as the Maroon & White snapped a five-game losing streak Thursday afternoon.

With the score tied 4-4, a leadoff walk by Leigh Konet got the Pirate rally ignited. Key hits by Ava Mae DeMooy, Sienna DeMooy, Juliana Benjamin, and Rylie Quaiser were fuel for a fire that wasn't put out until the Pirates had built a 9-4 advantage. Colleen Meese would make that lead hold up with ease in the Great Lakes Conference West Division meeting between rivals. Meese allowed five runs -- all unearned -- on three hits and six walks. She struck out 10.

The Pirates outhit the Rockets 12-3. Benjamin (3-for-4, two runs batted in), Quaiser (2-for-3), and Ava Mae DeMooy (2-for-4, 2 RBI) logged multiple hits for the Double-R, which won on the road for the first time since April 6.

For the Pirates, Thursday's win was a measure of retribution: Bay defeated the Maroon & White in Rocky River April 8. Rocky River (6-8, 2-5 GLC West) is scheduled to play at Parma Friday.
