RR Volleyball

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (Aug. 24, 2023) -- The Pirates were back at their home port Thursday but not for long. Sweeping its way to a 3-0 victory while allowing just 47 points, Rocky River defeated Buckeye in its 2023 home opener.

The Maroon & White leveraged front- and backcourt efficiency to force a lot of Buckeye errors, and the Pirates earned their three wins by scores of 25-15, 25-13, and 25-19. River hit .242 while logging 42 digs against just 15 errors. The win marked the Pirates' fourth straight in a season opener (2020-23).

"Our passing has been quite good over our first two games," said coach Brittany Hensley. "Tonight was a good win that allowed us to get everyone out on the court."

Senior Samantha Young had 12 kills while hitting .370. Senior Maggie Pfahl had 11 digs against just one error while dishing out five aces. Junior Ella Duffy fed the frontcourt with 18 assists. Sophomore Kylie Spies added 13 assists and five errorless digs.

The Pirates (2-0) are scheduled to be back on the road for their next match. River is slated to play at Holy Name Tuesday.
