Pirates sail fourth in tourney campaign

Nick Tianello

UNIONTOWN, Ohio (Aug. 21, 2023) -- Rocky River registered an impressive fourth-place finish in a field of 25 teams at Monday's Green Invitational hosted by Green High School.

Senior Nick Tianello continued a hot streak and carded a 6-over 72 to earn 7th place in a field of 125 players. Tianello hit 10 greens in regulation and filed a 32-putt round in lowering his season scoring average to 79. His 40-38--78 was the lead edge of a 329 team score.

The Pirates' three other scoring players were Luke Dietrich (40-40--80), Dan Capka (40-45--85), and Jack Hurt (42-44--86). As a team, River hit 28-of-72 (38.9%) greens and averaged 32.5 putter per man. The event was held on the 6,767-yard, par-72 Ohio Prestwick Country Club.

"The course played tough, and we had some tough breaks but also some times where lack of focus cost us," said coach David Hendrickson, whose Swinging Corsairs placed fifth at the same event a year ago (Aug. 22). "Its a pretty good sign that we can post a finish like when we don't have our best stuff."

Host Green won with a team score of 306. Walsh took second, carding a 320.

Rocky River has now placed second-of-11 and fourth-of-25 in its last two tournaments.
