Thrice is nice! Pirates go low in valley sweep of three GLC foes

RR Boys Golf

FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio (Aug. 16, 2023) -- Rocky River clocked three wins in one morning when the Pirates took down Fairview, Holy Name, and Normandy Wednesday at Big Met Golf Course.

The Double-R rounded up four sub-40s in posting a 148, the lowest team score the program has registered over the last three seasons.

"This was a good day for us down here in the valley," said coach David Hendrickson. "Guys were either hitting lots of greens or doing great wedge work around the greens, and that's a great combination."

River's 148 figure undercut Fairview (231), Holy Name (196), and Normandy (167), and the Pirates swept the Great Lakes Conference quad-match over the par-36, 3,252-yard back nine at Big Met. The Swinging Courses have swung their way to wins by at least 19 strokes in each of their matches so far.

On Wednesday, the four horseman of the scoresheet were Luke Dietrich (35), Jack Hurt (37), Nick Tianello (38), and Caden Lawrence (38). That quartet went low, to be sure. How they went about blanketing par most of the way differed. Dietrich and Tianello combined to hit 13-of-18 greens. Hurt and Lawrence combined for just 22 putts.

Dietrich carded three birdies in his round. The senior lipped out on a birdie attempt on No. 17 or he would have finished birdie-birdie-birdie over the last three holes. Rocky River's other three scorers had one birdie each.

The Pirates (5-0, 5-0 GLC) are scheduled to return to action Monday at the Green Invitational (Ohio Prestwick Country Club in Uniontown).
