River rips Warriors 15-2 at Bohlken Park

RR Softball

FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio -- The Pirates hoisted crooked numbers in four innings, and two of those numbers were very crooked indeed, as Rocky River defeated Fairview 15-2 on Wednesday afternoon.

Across six mercy-rule, water-logged innings at Bohlken Park, the Maroon & White banged out 15 hits while getting superb pitching from senior hurler Katie Mommers. The game marked Rocky River's Great Lakes Conference opener.

Rocky River (2-1, 1-0 GLC) plated three runs in the top half of the first inning and then two more in the second. The Pirates would circuit the bags for four runs in the fourth and six in the sixth, all the while yielding just solo markers -- in the first and fourth -- to the home nine. Mommers went the distance, allowing two hits while walking five. She struck out 11 and held the Warriors to an 0-for-6 mark with runners in scoring position.

Mommers helped her own cause at the plate, where she went 2-for-3 with a walk and four runs batted in. Both her hits were doubles. Senior Kelsey Murphy went 2-for-2 with a home run and three walks. Senior Lindsay Hartman went 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Freshman Zoe Satayathum had a single and three walks.

As a team, River collected 11 walks and 11 stolen bases. The Pirates own a robust .523 on-base percentage through three games.

CANNON FIRE ...

RISP-Y BUSINESS:
Rocky River went 9-for-20 with runners in scoring position. Through three games, the Pirates are batting .510 in such situations.

CIRCLE OF TRUST: One of the two runs Katie Mommers allowed Wednesday was earned. Through 13-2/3 innings pitched this season, Mommers owns a 0.51 ERA. She has fanned 17 batters.

WAGAR NOT 210: Over the last two seasons, Rocky River is 3-0 against Fairview. The Pirates have outscored the Warriors 51-12 over those three games.
