Pirates sink Fairview 15-5

RR Softball

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- The Pirates leveraged 14 hits and five Warrior errors, as Rocky River defeated Fairview 15-5 in Friday Great Lakes Conference action.

River got solid pitching from Colleen Meese (4-1/3 innings) and Katie Mommers (2/3) in limiting the Warriors to four earned runs on three hits. The Pirates No. 2, 3, and 4 batters (Kate Tlapa, Kelsey Murphy, Katie Mommers) combined to go 8-for-11 with six runs batted in, as the Double-R completed a two-game season sweep of Fairview.

The Warriors managed solo runs in each of the game's first three innings. Slamming through that picket fence was a Pirate wrecking ball that countered with 5-, 2-, and 4-spots. River's 11-3 lead through three turned into a 15-3 advantage when the Pirates got four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Hits by Meese, Tlapa, Murphy, and Lindsay Hartman helped get the Double-R to their 12-run margin.

The Pirates (3-1, 2-0 GLC) closed out their 10-and-5 run-rule win in the top of the fifth when the Warriors left two aboard after scoring two runs.

For the game, Tlapa went 2-for-4 with a double. Murphy went 4-for-4 with her third home run of the season and four RBIs. Mommers went 2-for-3 with two steals. Zoe Satayathum went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.
