Benjamin hits slam, but Eagles slam the door in season sweep

RR Softball

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- After a taut, nine-inning affair Tuesday, the Pirates and Eagles tussled in a more one-sided contest Wednesday. And the visiting North Olmsted nine walked its way to being the winning side. The Eagles leveraged 13 walks in downing Rocky River 15-5 at Pirate Field.

North Olmsted hoisted crooked numbers in each of the first three innings and would win the game in wire-to-wire fashion. A third-inning grand slam by Juliana Benjamin got the Pirates (3-3, 2-2 GLC) with three (7-4), but River would plate just one more run in the game. The Eagles, meanwhile, would score eight more to close out the game in run-rule fashion after six frames.

The Pirates' fifth run was also knocked in by Benjamin, on a fifth-inning, two-out single plating Kate Tlapa who reached after being hit by a pitch. Benjamin's home run marked her first of the season and the second of her career. The sophomore corner infielder logged five hits and seven RBIs over River's two games against the Eagles.

Colleen Meese (five innings) and Zoe Satayathum (one) pitched for Rocky River.
