Rocky River falls in Region 10 tussle in Tiffin

RR Football

TIFFIN, Ohio (Oct. 28, 2022) -- The 106th season of Rocky River Pirates football came to an end Friday night in Tiffin. The Pirates were sunk by the Columbian Tornadoes in a DIII Region 10 first-round tournament game at Frost-Kalnow Stadium. The second-seeded Tornadoes pulled off a 41-7 conquest in wire-to-wire fashion, and they now move on to a Region 10 quarterfinal against No. 10 Padua.

No. 15 Rocky River (4-7) was held off the scoreboard until the fourth quarter in Friday's contest. Columbian (9-2) tallied its points in 14-20-7 fashion over the game's first three quarters, respectively. The first-round game in the Buckeye State playoffs marked the fifth time this season that the Tornadoes have yielded 8 points or less in a single game.

The Pirates -- who had won three straight games midseason to get their record to 4-4 -- lost three straight games to finish the 2022 campaign. The Double-R was outscored 131-28 over those three losses.
