River heads into bracket play on a good note after rout over Hathaway Brown

Kelsey Murphy

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- Eight Pirate batters drove in runs as Rocky River bludgeoned Hathaway Brown 17-4 Wednesday.

A warm, sunny day agreed with the River offense, and the Maroon & White clubbed 13 hits in five innings as they tied a season-high in single-game run production. Rocky River (9-11) sent 16 batters to the plate in the bottom of the second inning in the non-conference triumph over the Blazers. The Pirates had seven hits in that frame alone; they plated 12 in the second and would cruise to the run-rule victory at Pirate Field.

Sienna DeMooy and Kelsey Murphy each had two hits in that second inning onslaught. Murphy finished the game 3-for-3 with a double and three runs batted in.

Rocky River went 13-of-29 in raising its season batting average to .318.

Katie Mommers (two innings pitched), Colleen Meese (1 IP), and Zoe Satayathum (2 IP) split the abbreviated River effort in the circle. Mommers lowered her season ERA to 4.27 with two scoreless frames. She struck out four.

The Pirates are scheduled to travel to Lodi for an OHSAA DII Akron District Tournament game Thursday. No. 14 seed Rocky River will take on No. 13 Cloverleaf at 5 p.m.
