Westlake thumps River 20-4

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- Rocky River coughed up 20 runs, its most in a single-season game since April 3, 2021 (22 vs. Padua), as the Pirates fell to the Westlake Demons 22-4 Tuesday.

The Demons drew 10 walks and hammered out 13 hits in the five-inning, run-rule contest at the Corner of Northview & 90. They crossed the plate five times in the first inning, six times in the second, twice in the third, four times in the fourth, and three times in the fifth. Rocky River countered with a solo run in the third and a four-spot in the fourth.

The Pirates (8-11, 4-7 Great Lakes Conference West) were outhit 13-5.

Megan Forshey paced the Westlake attack with a 4-for-5 performance at the plate. Alyssa Carmen went 2-for-2 with five runs batted in.

Rocky River got a three-run home run from Kelsey Murphy. Katie Mommers went 2-for-3.

The Demon triumph spells a two-game regular-season sweep for Westlake, which defeated River 14-4 on April 26.

The Pirates will play a non-conference home game against Hathaway Brown Wednesday.
