Pirates ground Eagles in GLC West opener

RR Volleyball

NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio (Sept. 6, 2022) -- Rocky River remained unbeaten on the young season with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-18) victory over North Olmsted Tuesday.

The road battle against the Eagles marked River's opener in Great Lakes Conference West Division play. And it kept alive the Pirates' impressive unbeaten-and-unscored-upon start to the 2022 campaign.

Rocky River (4-0, 1-0 GLC West) got 15 kills from Samantha Young and a career-high-tying eight from Haddie Holton. Ella Brokaw added four kills and five total blocks.

The Pirates hit .366 in set 3 and .279 for the match. Young filed just one hitting error and hit .437 on the evening.

River hitters were set up by Kylie Spies (15 assists) and Ella Duffy (13).

"Our offense clicked tonight," said coach Brittany Morris, whose Pirates have taken all four matches this season by a 3-0 score. "We had a lot of free ball opportunities to run different play sets."

The defense for the Maroon & White was led by Maggie Pfahl, who registered 16 digs.

The Pirates are slated to host the Bay Rockets (6-0, 1-0) on Thursday.
