Pirates net shutout in return to action

OLMSTED FALLS, Ohio -- Rocky River returned to action Saturday, and the Pirates thumped the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs 14-0 in a Northern Ohio Lacrosse League contest at Charles Harding Stadium.

Playing for the first time since April 12, the Maroon & White dented twine five times in the opening 10 minutes and never looked back. The Pirates (9-1, 6-0 NOLL) would go on to outscore their hosts 8-0 in the opening half, and five different players registered goals over that stretch. Without yielding a score at their own end, the Pirates went on to score six more times in the second.

The shutout marked River's third of the season. Hannah Burgess (one save) and Acadia Hover (two) combined on the bagel offering.

Rocky River's leading goal scorers -- with two goals each -- were Kaitlyn Byrne, Emma Uline, Reagan Connelly, Grace DeWitt, and Ella Nejad.

The contest marked the first of three in a row away from home for a Pirate team that has now rallied with two sharp victories after an April 9 loss at Worthington Kilbourne. Rocky River is scheduled to continue that road stretch Tuesday at Strongsville.
