Pirates sink Central Catholic 17-0

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- Rocky River routed Cleveland Central Catholic 17-0 in a five-inning, run-rule conquest Saturday at Pirate Field. Katie Mommers (one inning pitched), Colleen Meese (1 IP), and Zoe Satayathum (3 IP) combined to toss five scoreless frames for the Pirates, who snapped a four-game losing streak.

Rocky River (4-5) plated nine runs in the home half of the first inning, five in the second, and three in the fourth in scoring its season-high 17 runs. The Pirates had eight singles, four doubles, a home run, and eight walks in the non-conference tilt. The traffic jam on the bases was churned by a 9-of-13 performance with runners in scoring position.

A swashbuckling 3-for-3 batting line was turned by Emily Satayathum, who counted a double and a career-first home run among her three hits. Satayathum also walked and scored four runs. For good measure, the senior center fielder also knocked in five runs.

River's leading batters in the abbreviated affair were Kelsey Murphy (double, two walks), Katie Mommers (2-for-3, double, 3 RBIs), Juliana Benjamin (3-for-3, double, 2 RBIs), and Tess Aulisio (2-for-2, 3 RBIs).

River's trio of pitchers combined to allow just one hit while striking out eight.
