RR Softball

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- Senior hurler Katie Mommers went the route in the circle n helped her own cause with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, as the Pirates claimed a frozen War-by-the-Shore victory over the Bay Rockets in Wednesday Great Lakes Conference West Division action. Rocky River got hits from seven players in the 6-4 triumph at Pirate Field.

Mommers doubled and singled to account for two of River's nine hits in the game. Her two-out double in the fourth was the key hit in a two-run frame that broke a mid-contest, 3-3 tie. In the circle, Mommers allowed just one more run the rest of the way in helping the Pirates (5-6, 3-3 GLC West) close out their first win in circuit play since April 8.

For the game, the senior pitcher went seven innings, allowing four runs (one earned) on seven hits and four walks. She struck out six while lowering her season ERA to 2.90. At the plate, Mommers and fellow senior Kate Tlapa each had two hits and a walk. Mommers has collected two base hits in each of her last three games and is now batting .467 (14-of-30) this spring. Senior Emily Satayathum (single, two walks) also reached base three times in the game.

Mommers pitched around five Pirate errors and held the Rockets to a 2-for-19 afternoon with runners in scoring position. River has committed 17 errors over its last four games.

The Maroon & White are scheduled to play a GLC crossover game at Holy Name Thursday.
