RR Girls Lacrosse

CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio -- Rocky River fell 7-6 to Chagrin Falls in a hard-fought non-conference tussle at Harris Stadium Wednesday evening.

Playing a one-goal game for a second straight night, the Pirates (10-2) managed to build a 4-2 lead by halftime. Ella Nejad (two goals) and Olivia Konopka (two assists) each had two points in the opening half.

Two quick goals by the home side in the first two minutes of the second levelled the proceedings at 4-4. Nejad's third of the game -- on an assist from Konopka at 20:52 of the second -- lifted River back into the lead. The lead would be Rocky River's last of the game.

The Tigers vaulted to a two-goal cushion (7-5) with a goal by Peyton Gellin and two by Aubree Daugherty over the next 14 minutes of play. The Pirates would be held off the scoreboard until Kaitlyn Byrne scored at the 2:55-mark, and her tally would be the final one of the contest.

For the game, Chagrin Falls outshot Rocky River 28-16.

Kalyn Scalabrino was credited with four ground balls and a caused turnover. Hannah Burgess logged 15 saves and two spills.

The game marked River's third in a row on the road. The Pirates are slated to return home for Rocky River Stadium games on Saturday (1 p.m. versus Columbus St. Francis) and Monday (7 p.m. vs. Westlake). Monday's game will mark Senior Night for the Double-R program.
