RR Girls Lacrosse

STRONGSVILLE, Ohio -- Rocky River earned a come-from-behind victory over Strongsville in Tuesday night Northern Ohio Lacrosse League action. The Pirates battled back from a 7-4 deficit to score the last four goals of a taut 8-7 affair at Pat Catan Stadium.

Goals by Daisy Thompson, Kaitlyn Byrne, Ava Patti, and Grace DeWitt -- all in the final 12 minutes-and-10 seconds of play leapfrogged the Striped Buccaneers past the Mustangs. DeWitt's goal -- her second of the match -- came at the 1:59 mark and broke a 7-7 tie.

The victory marked Rocky River's third in a row, and it kept the Pirates unbeaten in league play.

The Maroon & White led 3-1 early, only to see the host Mustangs take control of the contest over the latter minutes of the first half and the early minutes of the second. From 11:43 of the first to 12:10 of the second, Strongsville outscored Rocky River 6-1.

For the game, the Pirates (10-1, 7-0 NOLL) outshot the Mustangs 20-12. Hannah Burgess registered four saves in backing a defense that now held opponents to single-digit goal totals in 11 straight games.

River's leading scorers were DeWitt, Patti (two goals), and Ella Nejad (two goals, assist).

The Pirates are slated to play a non-conference game at Chagrin Falls Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
