Bats come alive for Saturday sweep

Kelsey Murphy

BAY VILLAGE, Ohio -- The bats came alive as Rocky River turned two in a split doubleheader at Bay High School Saturday. The Pirates downed Valley Forge 17-5 in a Great Lakes Conference crossover game and then defeated the host Rockets 15-11 in a game 2 GLC West affair.

After scoring just 13 runs on a .628 OPS in their previous four games, the Pirates banged out 16 hits against the Patriots and 17 against the Rockets.

Rocky River (7-8, 4-4 GLC West) got home runs from Lindsay Hartman, Katie Mommers, and Kelsey Murphy. Murphy hit for the cycle in game 1 and was 9-for-10 with six runs batted in over the two games. Murphy, Colleen Meese (4-for-9), Mommers (4-for-10), Emily Satayathum (3-for-11), Juliana Benjamin (3-for-8), Kate Tlapa (3-for-8), and Hartman (3-for-10) all had three hits-or-more for the Pirates.

Meese (five innings in game 1) and Mommers (seven innings in game 2) combined to provide River's work in the circle.
