Pirates undone in close match in the valley

FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio (Aug. 17, 2022) -- Rocky River was edged by Avon Lake in a close non-conference match at Big Met Golf Course Wednesday.

The Pirates had a three-match win streak snapped in a 305-312 setback against the Shoremen. Rocky River (3-1) was led by the junior duo of Nick Tianello and Luke Dietrich. Tianello registered three birdies en route to a 1-over 34-39--73. Dietrich carded a 35-39--74, and he also logged a trio of birdies.

Dan Capka (39-43--82) and Owen Toole (42-41--83) rounded out River's top four.

Capka and Dietrich led the squad in accuracy off the tee (six fairways each). Dietrich was dialed in on approaches (13 greens in regulation) but finished with 34 putts. Tianello had a team-best 30 putts on the 6,481-yard track in the valley.

Dietrich's 13 greens marked a team-high for 2022. The junior standout has hit 58.5% of his greens in regulation this fall. He owns a stroke average of 76.3.

As a team Rocky River hit fairways at a 37.5% clip and green at a 51.4% rate. The Pirates averaged 32.8 putts per man.
