Pirates cage Panthers, 3-0

RR Volleyball

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (Sept. 20, 2022) -- The Pirates earned a Great Lakes Conference West Division victory over Elyria Catholic Tuesday. Rocky River put a season-high 4.7 aces per set together with a season-best 3.0 digging errors per set. The result was a 3-0 (25-13,25-17,25-17) shutout for a second straight night.

After reeling in a hard-fought non-conference road win at North Royalton just 24 hours prior, the River Raiders upped their 2022 home record to 4-0 by controlling the match throughout and on both sides of the attack line.

"Our serving has been quite good lately, and it was especially strong tonight," said coach Brittany Morris. "We also had some great blocks. Things we're working on and emphasizing in practice are coming through in the matches."

Five Pirates registered service aces in the contest against the Panthers (6-6, 2-3 GLC West). Chief among them was Ella Duffy, who logged six aces and 13 assists in the match. Ella Brokaw added three aces and seven kills.

Samantha Young filed 17 kills, a .343 hitting percentage and 10 errorless digs. Madie Shoaf added six kills. Kylie Spies chipped in with 14 assists.

The Pirates (8-1, 4-1) hit .162 for the match. They are scheduled to host another GLC West match Thursday.
