Scores approach temps on hot, windy day on the links

MASSILLON, Ohio -- Rocky River competed in the Polar Bear Invitational at Shady Hollow Country Club Monday. The Pirates placed 15th against a challenging field on a warm and windy day, as they opened their second week of the season.

Leading River was Lucas Dietrich who fired an 11-over 83 on the 6,799-yard track. Dietrich carded a 39 on the front nine and a 44 on the back. He was joined on the four-man totals sheet by Owen Toole (87), Wes Bennett (87), and Sam Vannucci (88).

Highlights on the day included birdies for Nick Tianello, Toole, and Vannucci.

Hoban fired a 291 to win the tournament which was hosted by Massillon Jackson High School. St. Ignatius was runner-up at 293. Ashland's Tyler Sabo carded a 68 to earn medalist honors.

The Pirates are slated to play in another invitational tournament on Tuesday when they travel to Redtail Golf Club in Avon for the St. Ignatius Invitational.
