River falls in nonconference home match

FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio -- Rocky River dropped a nonconference match to the Avon Lake Shoremen Wednesday at Big Met Golf Course.

The Shoremen won the 18-hole match, 313-334. Nick Tianello carded a pair of birdies (par-3 eighth, par-3 10th) en route to leading the Pirates in scoring with an 8-over 80 on the 6,481-yard track in the Rocky River valley. Tianello was backed on the score sheet by Lucas Dietrich (83), Robby Lang (84), and Owen Toole (87).

Dietrich recorded two solid birdies on the front nine (par-4 sixth, par-4 ninth), but he faltered on the back. Dietrich finished 37-46 on a day when back-nine struggles were common for the Men in Maroon.

"This was a tough match for us," said Head Coach David Hendrickson. "Things went sideways on the back, and we talked about how we need to get back on track when things go awry."

On Thursday, the Pirates (2-1, 2-0 Great Lakes Conference) are scheduled to play a conference tri-match (Buckeye, Valley Forge) at Ridgewood Golf Course in Parma.
