Pirates drowned out by Westlake

WESTLAKE, Ohio -- The Rocky River Pirates dropped a 3-0 match for just the second time this season as they fell to undefeated Westlake, 3-0, Tuesday night.

The 19-0 Demons took the home match by scores of 25-16, 25-15, 25-17. Westlake held  Rocky River to an .097 hitting percentage and forced the Pirates into 9.7 dig errors per set. With the setback in the Great Lakes Conference West Division match, River is now 1-3 over its last four contests.

The Pirates (8-9) were led by Samantha Young and Paige Waite who had 12 and eight kills, respectively. Waite added three block assists. Taylor Spies had 15 digs.

The Demons pulled off a regular-season sweep with the win. Westlake defeated River, 3-1, in Rocky River on Sept. 16. The Pirates only other 3-0 loss this season came in a Sept. 28 match against the Bay Rockets.
