River takes 2nd in GLC tourney

RR Boys' Golf

SEVILLE, Ohio -- Rocky River had its string of six consecutive Great Lakes Conference championships snapped in the league's title event Friday at Rawiga Golf Club.

The Pirates placed second in the 12-team GLC Tournament, posting a team score of 329 which was edged by new-league-member Westlake (317). River was paced by a pair of top-5 performances, with Luke Dietrich firing a 40-35--75 and Nick Tianello logging a 38-40--78. They finished second and fourth, respectively, in the 72-player field.

Robby Lang (87) and Owen Toole (89) rounded out Rocky River's score sheet on the 6,359-yard track.

Dietrich had three birdies in his round, which featured a comeback after being 5-over through six holes. Tianello carded a pair of birdies; Lang and Toole each had one.

Dietrich and Tianello earned First Team All-GLC status, which is based on scoring average in league events. Both are now two-time honorees at that level. Lang and Toole were tabbed as Second Teamers. Wes Bennett and Sam Vannucci earned Honorable Mentions.
