Quick-strike Sailors send Pirates to defeat

RR Volleyball

VERMILION, Ohio -- Rocky River dropped a non-conference match at Vermilion Wednesday night. The Sailors sank the Pirates, 3-1, winning three straight games after the visiting Raiders had taken set No. 1.

Vermilion won the match, 22-25, 25-12, 25-13, 25-19. The Pirates were tagged with 24 attack errors in hitting just .061. River had a season-high 10 dig errors per set as well.

"Their offense was very quick," said head coach Brittany Morris, "and we didn't find success at the net like we had last night against Elyria Catholic."

The Pirates (6-6) hit .276 with five blocks against six block errors on Tuesday at Elyria Catholic. Rocky River had four blocks against 13 errors at Vermilion.

Samantha Young led the Pirates with 20 kills on a .276 average. Young also had four block assists and eight digs. Clare Duffy logged 11 digs against just two errors.

Rocky River is slated to close out a stretch of three road matches in as many days with a Great Lakes Conference West Division match at North Olmsted on Thursday.
