RR Volleyball

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- Rocky River was undone in straight sets by the Bay Rockets in Great Lakes Conference West Division action on Tuesday.

Bay prevailed 25-22, 25-17, 25-15, in what marked the Pirates' first 3-0 loss of the season. The Pirates (7-7, 4-3 GLC West) are now 2-6 since Sept. 16. The Rockets swept the regular-season series from their neighbors to east, doing so after Rocky River had taken nine of the previous 10 matches in the rivalry.

On Tuesday, River failed to generate any momentum in its service game. The Pirates logged just five aces while posting 11 errors across 56 attempts. The 11 service errors marked Rocky River's most in a single match since Sept. 17, 2020.

The Pirates got 11 kills from Samantha Young and six each from Madie Shoaf and Paige Waite. Maggie Pfahl paced the back line with 15 digs.

With Tuesday's loss at the Corner of Wagar & Detroit, River is now 3-2 across five home matches this season. Tuesday's match marked the opening of a three-matches-in-three-days stretch for the Pirates. Rocky River will play at Strongsville on Wednesday and at Fairview on Thursday.

BUCCANEER BLOCKADE: The Pirates went into Tuesday's match averaging 1.6 blocks per set. That's a would-be best for the program since 2018. Harper Piguet (27 total blocks) and Paige Waite (22) were Rocky River's season leaders prior to Tuesday's action.
