Bucs ride Wave to 19-9 victory

RR Softball

PARMA HEIGHTS, Ohio -- The Pirates reeled in five-or-more runs in three separate innings, as Rocky River dealt Holy Name a 19-9 loss in Wednesday afternoon Great Lakes Conference play.

River banged out 14 hits and leveraged 10 walks, and the victory marked a two-game season sweep for the Maroon & White. The Pirates defeated the Green Wave, 15-5, in Rocky River on April 19. The Pirates had six extra-base hits in that win at Pirate Field; on Wednesday they clocked six more on five doubles and Lindsay Hartman's third round-tripper of the spring.

Hartman was part of a fearsome foursome in the River batting order: slots 3-through-6 (Katie Mommers, Kelsey Murphy, Lexi Aguilar, Hartman) went a combined 11-for-22 with seven RBIs.

The Raiders from River scored five runs in the third inning, six in the fifth, and six in the seventh.

Mommers went the route in the circle, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 13 hits in what marked the first of two post-postseason games for the Pirates. Rocky River (16-11) will close out its 2021 campaign at Elyria Catholic on Friday.
