A River rout! Pirates plate 24 in win at Fairview

RR Softball

FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio -- The Pirates completed a two-game season sweep of their Great Lakes Conference neighbors to the south, as Rocky River defeated Fairview, 24-8, on Friday.

River's season-high in runs was produced in five-inning, run-rule fashion. The rout was highlighted by the Pirates scoring 10 runs in the fourth inning and eight in the fifth. Rocky River's 17 base hits were augmented by seven walks and seven Warrior errors. Ten of the runs scored were of the unearned variety.

Delivering the biggest punches in the regular-season TKO were juniors Katie Mommers (4-for-5, double, triple, five runs batted in) and Kelsey Murphy (4-for-5, double, home run, 7 RBIs). Junior hurler Maggie Hill allowed eight runs (six earned) on eight hits and three walks. Hill fanned six and helped her own cause with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate.

Friday's contest was played at Bohlken Park. The Pirates beat Fairview, 12-2, at home on Wednesday.

BOEING BATTING AVERAGE:
Kelsey Murphy's seventh RBI Friday marked her 60th of the season. That extends her already-program-record season in that department. Her home run was her 10th of the season, again extending a single-season program record she already owns. Murphy has hit safely in nine consecutive games. Eight of those nine games have been of the multi-hit variety, and over the streak she is batting .774 (24-of-31).

NARDI PARTY: Maire Kelly and Katie Mommers etched their names into the Pirate record book on Friday. Kelly had one of River's seven stolen bases in the game, and that theft marked her 27th of the spring. That passed Genni Nardi (1982) for the single-season record. Mommers scored four runs in the contest, the third of which passed the 42 runs Nardi scored in that same 1982 season. ... River's 24 runs eclipsed their previous season-high of 22 (April 17 vs. Valley Forge). The Pirates have plated 20-plus in four games this season.
