HARTVILLE, Ohio -- Rocky River carded a 12th-place finish at Monday's Blue Streak Congress Invitational hosted by Lake High School.

The Swinging Corsairs fired a four-man score of 354 on the challenging 6,627-yard, par-71 Congress Lake Country Club course. The tally was River's highest in five invitationals this season, but the Pirates were still near the middle of the pack in the 19-team event.

Senior Sam Vannucci led Rocky River with an 11-over 82. Vannucci carded a 43 on the outward nine and a 39 coming in to post his best 18-hole score since Aug. 6 (80 at Rawiga Golf Club). The Pirate veteran lowered his season average to 85.8. His Monday round was highlighted by an eagle-2 at the 354-yard, par-4 seventh. Vannucci's second shot, from 195 yards out, found the bottom of the cup.

River's top-4 at the Donald Ross design which opened in 1923 was rounded out by Nick Tianello (89), Lucas Dietrich (90), and Robby Lang (93).

The Pirates struggled on the slick greens of Congress Lake; they averaged 35.8 putts per round.

The Double-R is slated to return to action at another tournament, the Midview Invitational at Columbia Hills Country Club, on Sept. 7.
