RR Volleyball

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- Rocky River opened Great Lakes Conference West Division play on Tuesday, and the Pirates won their match -- against new-GLC member North Olmsted -- to continue a season-opening win streak. The Double-R downed the Eagles, 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-13) to earn their third shutout victory of the season.

"Our service reception and passing were solid tonight," said head coach Brittany Morris. The Pirates were tagged with a season-low two service errors in the contest.

Rocky River (4-0, 1-0 GLC West) hit .149 for the match. Up front, the Pirates were led by Paige Waite's 11 kills. And Harper Piguet's four block assists. Samantha Young added six kills, two assists, and 10 digs. Estella Giomini logged 21 assists in the match.

River had 12 aces in the match. Giomini (four aces) and Maggie Pfahl (five) led the Pirates in that department. Pfahl had nine digs on the evening; Taylor Spies added five.

Rocky River's four-game win streak is the program's longest to open a season since 2010, when the Pirates started 5-0.

The Pirates are slated to play another West Division contest on Thursday when they travel to Bay Village to meet the Bay Rockets.
