RR Wrestling

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- Rocky River came up short on both ends of a Thursday tri-match against the Parma Redmen and Bay Rockets.

Competing on a home mat for the first time this season, the Wrestling Raiders were defeated 60-12 by a strong Parma squad and 42-30 in a hard-fought nightcap. Both matches were Great Lakes Conference affairs.

River's lone wins against the Redmen were earned by Connor Schiefferle on a first-period pin and Aidan Konet on an injury forfeit after a tremendous three-point period against Joe Hunsdorf. Konet led the tussle 2-1.

Against the Rockets, Rocky River trailed 24-0 early before getting five straight wins among the middleweights. Three of those triumphs were on the mat, with Ilyas Buchanafa earning a pin at 150 pounds, Mohammed Salti clocking a 6-1 decision at 157, and Owen Patton getting a pin at 165.

After a Zane Lindquist win by forfeit, the Pirates led 27-24. River would get a key win by decision at 285 (Ali Karar), but the Rockets registered three key pins late to take the match.

The event marked the first of four straight Thursdays of GLC Wrestling. The Pirates will host duals on Jan. 20 and Jan. 27. The team is slated to compete in a tournament hosted by Woodridge High School this Saturday.
