ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – Rocky River’s cross country teams split on Saturday, with the boys’ team running in the Galion Cross Country Festival and the Pirate girls competing in the Boardman Invitational. [results: B | G]
In Galion, Ohio – at the Galion Cross Country Festival -- the Rocky River boys earned a first-division finish in a field of 26 teams. The Maroon & White took 12th place with a score of 350. In a field
of 178 runners, the Pirates logged five top-100 finishes. Chief among those
performances was the 24th-place finish by junior Luke Kishna who made his way over the 5k course in 16 minutes-and-45.6 seconds. River’s other scoring athletes were Guillame Carroll (65th), Sam Buehrle (69th),
Luke Dorenkott (93rd), and Jack Miller (99th).
Pickerington North carded two top-3 finishes en route to
registering 98 team points and a slim margin of victory over second-place
Ashland (107).
In Boardman, Ohio – at the Boardman Invitational -- the Rocky River girls placed 24th in a field of 35 teams. Sophomore
Samantha Coleman paced the Pirate effort with a 13th-place finish in
a field of 278 athletes. Coleman (19:59.4) bested the 20-minute mark along with
just 12 other runners on what was a 70-degree, overcast day at Boardman High
School. River carded two other top-150 finishes, with sophomore Ella Russell
placing 119th and junior Alison Ritvo placing 134th.
River scored 589 points. North Allegheny (Pa.) won the
event, scoring 124 points.

YOUNG BUCS: In Saturday JV action, Rocky River earned third in a 12-team field on the boys’ side. Seth Williams and Majdid Abuaun logged standout performances. … In Boardman, the Pirates got top-100 finishes by Saraa Abuzarieh, Kelly Foster and Anna Rouphail. River took 17th in a field of 28 junior varsity squads. … In combined varsity/JV runs on Saturday, the Pirate boys garnered 15 personal-best times in Galion.
