Double-R takes two

Ethan Mylett

CLEVELAND – Rocky River went low on Thursday, firing a four-man score of 154 in handily defeating Normandy (187) and Parma (248) in Great Lakes Conference action.

Three Pirates broke 40 on the 2,831-yard, par-35 front side at Ridgewood Golf Course. Senior Ethan Mylett led the way, carding a one-over 36. Mylett was followed on the score sheet by Carlo Fricano (37), Will Bennett (38), and Hayden Weaver (42).

The Pirates (9-2, 9-1 GLC) prevailed on what was a rainy day at Ridgewood.

“The guys did a nice job avoiding unforced errors,” said Head Coach David Hendrickson whose Pirates are now 74-2 over 76 all-time GLC matches. “We carded some nice scores, especially considering the rainy conditions.”

CANNON FIRE …

7th HEAVEN: The Pirates picked apart the 452-yard, par-5 seventh hole at Ridgewood. Messrs. Mylett, Fricano and Bennett all two-putted for birdies on the hole. Bennett’s eagle effort lipped out on putt No. 1.

JV SILVER: River’s junior varsity squad continued its early-season success by posting a runner-up finish at Wednesday’s North Ridgeville JV Tournament. Nathan Robertson fired a career-best 80 to place second in the tournament. Matthew McDonald continued what has been a solid August for him – he posted an 83.
