FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio – Rocky River double-dipped at Big Met Golf Course on Wednesday, sweeping a pair of Great Lakes Conference foes in a home double dual.
The Pirates posted a four-man score of 161, and that was good for wins over Fairview (179) and Holy Name (202). The McDonald brothers – Aidan and Matthew – led the River charge on a breezy day over the 3,250-yard inward nine at Big Met. Aidan McDonald posted a career-best nine with an even-par 36. He was Rocky River’s top scorer; twin-brother Matthew carded the Pirates’ second-best score, a 4-over 40.
It was Aidan McDonald’s strong finish – birdies at 16 and 17 and a scramble par on 18 – that made for such a tremendous round. No. 17 was defenseless against McDonalds of all stripes – Matthew McDonald also birdied the 300-yard par-4.
River’s winning score sheet was rounded out by a 42 (John Snyder) and a 43 (Carlo Fricano, Mac Milenius).
The Pirates (15-2, 13-1 GLC) are dialed in on the four-man
score of 161. River has posted that exact number in each of three home
nine-hole matches this season.
With his career-best nine in the books, Aidan McDonald
lowered his season scoring average to 84.2.
