McDonald’s 78 highlights mid-pack performance

Carlo Fricano

COLUMBIA STATION, Ohio – Matthew McDonald and Carlo Fricano led the Pirate effort at the Midview Invitational on Tuesday. The large-field event was held at Columbia Hills Country Club.

With a team score of 340, Rocky River placed seventh in a field of 18 teams. McDonald carded his best varsity score by firing a 7-over 78 on the par-71, 6,000-yard layout designed by Harold Paddock in 1928.

McDonald’s 78 was backed up on the River score sheet by Fricano (83), John Snyder (88) and Will Bennett (91).

“It was encouraging to see Matt and Carlo lead us,” said Head Coach David Hendrickson of his two first-year varsity players. “They both played some really solid golf.”

McDonald logged a rock-solid round devoid of anything worse than a bogey on his scorecard. The Pirate junior has averaged an 83.3 in varsity action since Aug. 15.

Strongsville’s Michael Lee took medalist honors in the tournament. Lee circuited the grounds with a score of 3-under 68.
