Bucs be-Deviled in battle at Brunswick

RR Boys' Golf

MEDINA, Ohio -- Rocky River gave host Brunswick a fight, but the Pirates were nipped on the four-man scoreboard, 331-342.

The Men in Maroon rallied after posting some big numbers early. Leading the way in the comeback bid were freshman Luke Dietrich and senior Hayden Weaver. Both players would shave multiple strokes off their front-nine scores en route to leading the Pirates in scoring over the grounds at 6,718-yard Weymouth Country Club. Dietrich would finish with a 42-39--81 to lead River in scoring for a fifth time in eight events. Weaver carded a 43-39--82, notching his best 18-hole round of the season.

Other scorers for Rocky River (3-2) included seniors Will Bennett (44-42--86) and Aidan McDonald (46-46--93).

Hayden Weaver birdied a pair of holes (par-3 12th, par-5 14th) on the inward nine.

Dietrich carded six pars and three birdies over his final nine holes. The 81 marked a rebound for the freshman linkster who posted a 90 at Congress Lakes on Monday. Dietrich's season average now sits at a tidy 82.7.

Tuesday's loss marked River's second of the season to a talented Brunswick squad. The Blue Devils defeated the Pirates, 314-335, at Pine Hills Golf Club on Aug. 20.

The Pirates are slated to return to Great Lakes Conference play with a league tri-match (against Buckeye and Lakewood) at Big Met Golf Club on Thursday.
