Demon-ized: Pirates fall in hard-fought court clash

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- Rocky River and Westlake engaged in a west-side tussle on Monday, and the Demons emerged victorious by a 3-2 score.

Westlake swept the doubles matches, with first doubles (Jackie Wong/Stella Davisson d. Caitlyn Kelly/Maire Kate Hickey) being a 7-5, 6-3 battle. Rocky River won, 6-0, 6-0, in first singles (Samantha Robertson d. Neige DeAngelis) and 1-6, 7-6 (3), 5-2, in third singles (Makenzie Runyon d. Mia Iditolu). Runyon battled back from a 5-0 deficit in the middle set.

In second singles, the Demons' Madison Shami edged Becca Krebs, 6-7 (3), 1-6, in a hard-fought match.

"Becca battled tough and hung in the game throughout," said Head Coach JoHanna Forman. "And really as a team we did the same. This team shows a lot of fight."

Monday's court clash marked the first of three straight days of matches for the Maroon & White. The Pirates will be at Shaker Heights on Tuesday.
