Double-R doubles up for twin wins at Big Met

Hayden Weaver

FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio -- Rocky River ran its Great Lakes Conference record to 4-0 with a pair of victories in a Thursday tri-match at Big Met Golf Club.

The Pirates posted a four-man score of 155, besting the Buckeye Bucks (188) and Lakewood Rangers (215) on what was a breezy afternoon under azure blue skies in Rocky River Reservation. Surging Hayden Weaver was River's top scorer, carding a 37 over the 3,229-yard, par-36 outward nine at Big Met. The multi-sport senior (hockey, lacrosse) rallied after double-bogeying the par-4 first. Weaver birdied No. 2 and eagled No. 5 en route to his overall 1-over score.

Fellow seniors Will Bennett and Aidan McDonald checked in with counters, at 38 and 39, respectively. Freshman Luke Dietrich fired a 41 to finish as the Pirates' No. 4.

Up next on the Pirates schedule is a Tuesday trip to Columbia Hills Country Club in Columbia Station, Ohio, for the Midview Golf Invitational.

CANNON FIRE ...

TAKING THE FIFTH: The Pirates carded an eagle (Weaver) and two birdies (Bennett, Dietrich) on the fifth green which hugs the curvaceous banks of the Rocky River. Weaver's eagle on the 458-yard, par-5 fifth came on a 20-foot putt off the fringe.

HAY DAYS: With his 37 Thursday, Hayden Weaver finished as the top Pirate scorer for the second time this season. Weaver has now averaged a fine 83.8 over River's last five events. He's just 4-over par over his last 18 holes at Big Met. Weaver's stroke average on the season now sits at 84.4.
