AVON, Ohio -- Rocky River edged Bay by two strokes in a Great Lakes Conference match at Sweetbriar Golf Club on Wednesday.
Carding just one red number as a team -- a Will Bennett birdie on the par-5 16th, the Pirates buckled down with a slew of pars in turning back the Rockets, 153-155. The victory kept River unbeaten (5-0) in conference play.
Bennett and Luke Dietrich paced the Pirate effort with a pair of 2-over 37s on the 3,104-yard inward nine at Sweetbriar. Dietrich parred six straight holes (12-17) on one key stretch. Aidan McDonald overcame a clunky start to par his last five holes (14-18) en route to a 3-over 38.
Hayden Weaver (and/or Nick Tianello) reeled in River's No. 4 round, a 41.
Wednesday's two-stroke margin of victory marked the team's slimmest this season. With his 37, Bennett matched his low nine-hole match score of the season.
Rocky River (6-2, 5-0 GLC) is slated to take on Revere in a non-conference road match -- at Fairlawn Country Club -- on Thursday.
