Robertson buckles down, beats back the heat for 5th in a row

RR Girls' Tennis

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- Sophomore Samantha Robertson gutted out an impressive victory at first singles, but Rocky River fell to the Hudson Explorers, 4-1, on Thursday.

Robertson turned back not only the swelter of a hot, humid afternoon at Tri-City Park but also the heat applied by a talented foe in the feature match. After winning the opening set, 6-0, Robertson needed just about every shot in her bag in a 7-5 tester to win it. The talented underclassman has now won five straight matches and is 6-1 on the season.

Hudson claimed victories at second (6-0, 6-0) and third singles (6-1, 6-1) and at first (6-1, 6-1) and second doubles (6-1, 6-3).

The Pirates (3-4) have lost 3-of-their-last-4 in what has been a crucible portion of their 2020 schedule. The racket-toting Raiders will take on the Westlake Demons in  home-court match on Monday.
