RR Boys' Golf

CHESTERLAND, Ohio – Rocky River placed 13th in the Reece Alexander Invitational at Fowler’s Mill Golf Club Sunday.

Carding a four-man score of 351, the Pirates placed 13th in a field of 18 teams. Freshman Luke Dietrich was River’s top man, posting an 80 on the par-72, 6,623-yard Pete Dye layout. Dietrich birdied the par-4 first hole after a wedge approach to 2 feet. He would be 9-over the rest of the way to post the team’s best score for a third time in four events. Dietrich’s stroke average through Sunday is 81.4.

The Pirates’ other scoring players were Hayden Weaver (89), Aidan McDonald (91), and John Snyder (91).

The St. Ignatius Wildcats won the tournament – which had a shotgun start and was rain-delayed after 13 holes – with a team score of 294. Bolstered by a medalist performance by Ben Cors (2-under 70), Akron Hoban finished as the runner-up. The tournament was hosted by Gilmour Academy.
