Hindered by Holy Name: River foiled in four

RR Volleyball

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- Rocky River lost a Great Lakes Conference home match to Holy Name on Tuesday evening.

The Green Wave prevailed, 3-1 (26-24, 16-25, 25-17, 25-18), in finalizing a season sweep of the Pirates. Strong frontcourt play by the visitors led to River falling for just the second time in its last six matches.

Rocky River (7-6, 7-5 GLC) hit .187 in Tuesday's affair at Rocky River Gymnasium. Paige Waite (12 kills), Samantha Young (12), Austoria Miller (11) and Madie Shoaf (nine) paced the Pirate attack. Emily Slyman directed that effort with 42 assists.

Miller had a team-high 23 digs. Taylor Spies added 21 in defense of the home-side floor boards.

Holy Name beat Rocky River by the same 3-1 score on Sept. 1 and has now beaten the Maroon & White in seven straight matches dating to 2018.
