Pirates sink Warriors with depth charge

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- Rocky River swept new league-foe Fairview on Wednesday, with both the boys and girls teams earning decisive victories at Rocky River Pool.

The River boys defeated the Warriors, 146-34. The Pirate girls won by a final of 144-36. Rocky River swept every event on the evening, going 24-for-24. Double-R depth was on display throughout the meet.

The Rocky River boys swept first, second and third in 9-of-11 races in the Great Lakes Conference meet. The boys' top scorers were Braden Devorace (15 points), Aiden Morris (15), Aidan Carter (12), Drew Helms (12) and Gavin Shi (11). Devorace and Morris each logged two individual wins and were part of a first-place relay.

Carter won the 100-yard breaststroke in impressive fashion, clocking in a full seven seconds ahead of Fairview's Ian Black. Carter's final time was 1:09.68.

On the girls' side, River swept the top three podium slots in four events. The girls' top scorers were Anna Skapoulas (16 points, Peyton Spearry (16), Morgan Schuld (14), Mackenzie Schuld (13 and Ella Russell (13). Skapoulas and Spearry each recorded two individual wins and were part of two first-place relays.

Skapoulas was the anchor leg of the an effort by the 200-yard freestyle relay squad (Gianna Miller, Morgan Schuld, Ella Russell, Skapoulas) which touched in with a brisk time of 1:40.86 to break the pool record. 

The Maroon & White swept the night's diving competitions, with Griffin Sawyer and Makenna Pfaff earning first-place points for the boys' and girls' teams, respectively.

With the twin wins, Rocky River -- both teams -- remains unbeaten in GLC swims.
