OBERLIN, Ohio – Rocky River placed third (boys) and second (girls) in Saturday’s Oberlin Invitational. [results]

The Pirate boys team earned 316 points on the day at Robert Carr Pool on the campus of Oberlin College. Only two squads (Strongsville—410.5, Amherset Steele—378) tallied more. The Maroon & White got big swims in the 100-yard butterfly (Garrett Morris—second place), 500 freestyle (Drew Helms—second, Michael Edson--third) and 400 free relay (second). Rocky River placed third in a field of 15 teams.

The River girls (434 points) finished one point behind Strongsville (435) for the top spot in a field of 17 girls’ teams. Highlight events for the Pirates included the 100 free (sweeping the top four places), 100 fly (Anna Skapoulas—first, Ella Russell—second), 200 free (Morgan Schuld—second, Gianna Miller—third), 50 free (won by Miller) and 200 medley and 400 free relays (both won by Rocky River).

The impressive River performances were logged at the conclusion of what was a busy week for both programs. The Pirates also had events on Wednesday and Friday.

“This was a solid meet for us,” said boys’ Head Coach Mark Harris. “Near 100% personal bests from the freshman class. Unbelievable number of fast times at this point of the year and without much rest at all.”
