Double-R dismantles Rockets in home sweep

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – Rocky River swept Bay in Great Lakes Conference, home-pool action on Saturday.

The Pirate boys doubled up their Rocket counterparts, 122-61. The River girls battled Bay to a decisive 131-51 victory. The sweep keeps both Rocky River teams undefeated (3-0) in GLC swims.

In Saturday’s boys’ competition, River took first place in 10-of-12 events. Aiden Morris was the Pirates top scorer with 16 points. Morris won the 100-yard and 500-yard freestyle races and was part of two first-place relays. River swept all three relays in the meet.

Braden Devorace (12 points, first in the 50 free) and Nart Yilmaz (12 points, first in 100 backstroke) also churned out big point performances for the host Pirates.

The Rocky River girls also won 10-of-12 events on the day. Anna Skapoulas logged a team-high 16 points by winning two individual events (50 free, 100 butterfly) and figuring in two first-place relays.

Ella Russell, Morgan Schuld and Peyton Spearry each tallied 14 points. Spearry broke her own pool record in the 100 back. Her time of 58.33 seconds was the front end of a 1-2-3 sweep for River in the event. The Pirate girls also swept the top three spots in the 200 free, 100 fly, and 50 free.

The Rocky River boys are now 5-1 (3-0 GLC) on the season. The girls are 6-0 (3-0).
